Manufacturers of timber and cork floor finishes have developed a huge variety of products to cater for different client preferences and different performance needs.

In this section, we'll look at the main categories of coating systems and describe their typical characteristics.

We'll also discuss the basic processes used to prepare the floor, apply the coatings and complete the job.

Note that we've only made specific references to cork when the processes are different from solid timber.

In general, the finishing process is much the same for all of these surfaces.
